From Arctic roads to the Darién Gap, a seamless way to keep the journey going
Continuing the Journey When the Road Simply Ends
We first heard from Urs and Marian while they were still in Nicaragua, making their way south through Central America after three years on the road in their camper-converted Toyota Land Cruiser. Together with their dog, Pina, they had driven from Tuktoyaktuk in the Canadian Arctic — over 5,000 miles from Panama — with one goal in mind: reaching the southernmost point of South America.
Then came the one obstacle no one can drive through: the Darién Gap.
That’s when the Swiss couple reached out to us, looking for a way to continue the journey.
About two months later, Dan and Patricia travelling from California found themselves facing the exact same challenge. The two couples connected through an online forum, each searching for a way to continue their journey — shipping their vehicles separately and then flying with their large dogs — something commercial airlines often cannot accommodate on international routes.
What followed was more than arranging a flight. Their vehicles were shipped from Colón to Cartagena, while we coordinated a private charter from Panama City — aligning timing, flexibility, and the detailed requirements for international pet importation. With so many moving parts, the plan needed to adapt in real time. It did.
Once onboard the King Air, both dogs settled calmly beside their owners, as if this were simply another leg of a very long journey.
Departing from Panama City’s Albrook Airport at 8:00 a.m., just over an hour later both couples and their dogs were safely across one of the most challenging barriers in the Americas — continuing a journey that had already spanned continents.
For travel advisors, it’s a reminder that some itineraries fall outside the limits of commercial travel. When pets, remote routes, or international complexities are involved, the solution isn’t always obvious — but it exists.
And sometimes, it’s the difference between a journey ending, and one continuing exactly as planned.
If you’re working on a journey where timing, routing, or logistics need to come together seamlessly, we’re here to help you find the right solution.
